Clermont Tree Removal Starts With the Ground Under It
Clermont sits on the sand hills of the Lake Wales Ridge, and that sand drains fast. Trees here grow wide, shallow root systems to chase water, which is fine until a week of tropical rain turns the top few feet into soup and a forty-foot oak leans over on its root plate. Add the slopes that give Clermont its name for hills, and you get trees that look healthy right up until they aren't.
The other thing that shapes tree work around here is history. A lot of today's subdivisions off Hancock Road, US-27 and SR-50 were orange groves until the freezes of the 1980s and, later, citrus greening ended them. The builders kept the laurel oaks along old fence lines and planted fast-growing trees in the new yards. Laurel oaks only live about fifty to seventy years, and many of those fence-line trees are at the end of that run now — hollow in the middle, shedding limbs onto roofs and pool enclosures.
What we see most often
- Hollow laurel oaks over houses, screened pool cages and driveways — usually a removal, sometimes a heavy deadwood trim buys a few years.
- Dead or dying pines after drought and lightning, often with bark beetles moving tree to tree — see pine tree removal.
- Leftover citrus in back yards and on old grove acreage that greening killed years ago — citrus tree removal and land clearing.
- Storm damage after systems like Ian and Milton crossed Central Florida — storm damage cleanup with photos for the insurance adjuster.
Every town we work in has its own tree rules. Clermont, Minneola, Groveland, Winter Garden, Windermere and both counties each handle removals a little differently, and Florida law changed in 2019 for trees that are a documented danger to a home. We check which rules apply to your address on the estimate, so a removal never turns into a code problem later. Our permit guide walks through the basics.

On the job
Tree Removal Clermont Homeowners Can Watch Without Worrying
Most of our work happens in tight back yards between a house, a pool cage and a neighbor's fence. Here's what that looks like day to day around South Lake and West Orange.

Before and after
Tree Service Clermont FL Yards Look Better After
Drag the handle. A rotten tree over the house only gets more expensive to remove the longer it leans — and a lot more expensive once it comes down on its own.
Four things we check before quoting
Nearly every tree job that goes sideways traces back to one of these. We look at all four on the estimate visit, not on removal day.
- 01Decay and hollowsWe sound the trunk and look for fungus. A hollow laurel oak can't be climbed or rigged like a solid one.
- 02Root plate and slopeOn sand and hillsides, a lifted root plate means the tree is already moving. That changes how fast it needs to come down.
- 03What's underneathPool cages, lanais, fences, septic drain fields and irrigation decide whether we climb, rig, or bring a crane.
- 04Local rulesCity, town or county tree rules, HOA approval and the 2019 state exemption for dangerous trees on homes.

What Tree Service Costs in Clermont
These are the ranges most Clermont-area jobs land in. Your exact price depends on the tree, the access and what's under it, and you'll have it in writing before we start.
We'd rather you know these numbers going in. If someone quotes you far outside these ranges, ask what's included — haul-off, stump grinding and insurance are the usual places quotes get cheap. Our full Clermont tree removal cost guide breaks it down further.

Our Tree Removal Process in Clermont, FL
Four steps. You'll know what's happening and what it costs at every one.

Free estimate visit
We walk the yard with you, check the tree for decay and lean, look at what is under it, and confirm which tree rules apply to your address. You get a written flat price.
Usually within 1–2 days
Protect the property
Plywood and mats go down over grass, pavers and irrigation heads. Ropes and rigging go up so limbs come down where we want them, not on the cage.

The tree work
Climbing, rigging or crane, depending on the tree and the space. Hollow trees get handled differently from solid ones, which is why we checked first.
Most single trees: one day
Cleanup and haul-off
Brush gets chipped, logs get loaded, and the yard gets raked and blown off. If you want firewood or mulch left behind, just say so.
Haul-off includedWhy us
Why Clermont Homeowners Choose Our Tree Service
Trees are the only thing we do. Not lawn care, not pressure washing — trees.
Honest about what can wait
If a tree just needs a trim, or can go another season, we say so. You will not get talked into a removal you do not need.
One tree is a real job
Plenty of companies will not drive out for a single dead orange tree or one palm. We will, and we will not pad the price to make it worth the trip.
Rules checked for your address
A Clermont lot, a Windermere lot and an unincorporated Lake County lot all play by different tree rules. We sort that out before we cut.
Built for pool-cage yards
Most South Lake homes have a screen enclosure, a lanai or a vinyl fence right where the tree wants to fall. We rig and protect for that.
Storm work done properly
After a named storm we photograph everything for your adjuster first, then make the property safe, then clean up.
You see the price first
Every job gets a written flat price. If we find something unexpected, we stop and talk to you before anything changes.

Questions
Clermont Tree Service FAQs
Most Clermont removals land between $350 and $850 for a small tree, $850 to $1,800 for a medium tree, and $1,800 to $3,500 or more for a large oak or pine. Back-yard access, a pool cage or roof under the canopy, a hollow trunk, and whether we need a crane are what push a job toward the top of its range. You get the exact number in writing at the free estimate.
Sometimes. The City of Clermont, the surrounding towns, Lake County and Orange County each have their own tree rules, and they usually focus on larger protected trees rather than small or dead ones. Since 2019, Florida law also lets homeowners remove a tree that an ISA certified arborist or licensed landscape architect documents as a danger to people or property without a local permit. We check which rules apply to your address on every estimate.
Laurel oaks grow fast but typically live only fifty to seventy years, and many in South Lake were planted or left standing when grove land became subdivisions decades ago. They tend to rot from the inside, so the canopy can look fine while the trunk is hollow. Mushrooms at the base, cracks, and big dead limbs in the crown are the signs to call about.
Yes, this is one of our most common jobs in Clermont. We take the tree down in small pieces on ropes, or lift sections out with a crane when there is no room to lower them, so nothing lands on the screen or the frame. We plan the rigging around the cage during the estimate, not on the day of the work.
Take them out. Most backyard citrus in Lake County that has died back was killed by citrus greening, which has no cure, and the dead wood gets brittle and harbors pests. Removal usually runs $150 to $500 per tree depending on size, and we can grind the stumps so you can replant or sod. If you want citrus again, buy certified disease-free trees from a registered nursery.
Yes. Our emergency line runs around the clock for trees on houses, cars, cages, and driveways. We photograph the damage before touching anything so you have what your insurance company needs, then make the property safe and come back for full cleanup if the job needs daylight or a bigger crew.
Usually within one to two days across Clermont, Minneola, Groveland and the West Orange towns. Routine removals and trimming are normally scheduled within the week. During storm season, hazardous trees and anything resting on a structure go to the front of the line.
Not automatically, because not everyone wants it. A removal leaves the stump cut low to the ground. Grinding is a separate line on the quote, usually $95 to $450 per stump, and most people have it done the same visit. In Clermont's sandy soil we also chase the larger surface roots so the area settles evenly.
Yes. Many communities around Clermont, Minneola, Horizon West and Winter Garden require architectural approval before a tree comes down or a replacement goes in. We can give you a written assessment and quote to submit with your HOA request, and we schedule the work once the approval comes through.
Minneola, Montverde, Groveland, Mascotte and Howey-in-the-Hills in Lake County, plus Winter Garden, Horizon West, Windermere, Oakland, Ocoee and Gotha in West Orange County. All of them are on our regular route with no trip charge.
